Flying business class to Europe is one of the most popular premium routes from the US. Here’s how to find better fares and what to expect.

Major Gateways and Airlines

From the East Coast, nonstops to London, Paris, Frankfurt, and Amsterdam are plentiful. British Airways, Air France, Lufthansa, United, American, and Delta all offer lie-flat business on transatlantic routes. From the West Coast, look for nonstops to London and Paris, or one-stops via East Coast or Reykjavik.

When to Book

Book two to four months ahead for summer and holidays. Shoulder season (spring and fall) often has lower fares. Midweek departures are usually cheaper than Friday or Sunday.

Using Points and Miles

Many programs charge 50,000–70,000 miles one-way for business class to Europe. Partner awards (e.g. booking United with Chase points) can offer good value. Consider upgrading a paid economy or premium economy ticket with miles if cash prices are high.
